Traveling Vegetarian: Mr. Foisie’s Pasties

On the long trek up to Crystal Mountain a couple months ago my Mom mentioned that she was in the mood for a pastie. For those not from the North, it’s like a meat pie with little veggies inside that usually comes in beef and chicken. It’s very common for hunting season. I joked that they “shoot vegetarians up here” but she was on a mission and I know that if a woman in my family is on a mission get out of her way!

Sure enough at a gas station in Cadillac she asked if they knew of any place that would have a vegetarian pastie, come to find out it was less than a mile down the road! The locals recommended Mr. Foilie’s Pasties and we were beyond delighted. It happened to be one of those crazy Michigan Fall days where it was 75 degrees outside (I wish it were now!) so eating outside was an added delight.

I have to be honest, I have never like Pasties. I’ve had them throughout my life and could never stand the taste for them. But this vegetarian one was absolutely AMAZING! It had root vegetables, as well as cauliflower, broccoli and cheese. It was beyond delightful and my family loved it so much that we stopped there for dinner on the way home from our long weekend, plus we brought some home to freeze!

Heading to the North? Make sure to stop by, even if it’s just to take some home with you! Mr. Foilie’s has become a family favorite.

Stay warm this weekend!
