Girl’s Day at Top Golf

Let me start out by stating that I have never golfed before in my life. However it was always something that I wanted to learn. I discovered Top Golf online when I was searching for things to do on a Girl’s Day with my cousin Madison and it looked like a fun opportunity to get my foot into the golfing world… or at least my pinky toe.

Madison had never been to Top Golf as well so this was a completely new experience for both of us and I am so glad that we went in the morning as there was another Heat Advisory that day which meant that the temperature as well as the humidity were going to sky rocket. The Virginia Beach location was only about 10 minutes from my hotel in Norfolk with no traffic. As Madison and I entered we were immediately greeted in the storefront and were assigned a bay on the third floor which is apparently the best. I know now to ask for the ones with the couches rather than the tables, they look super comfy especially if you’re going to be there for a while.

As we approached our assigned bay we were greeted by not only a waiter but someone to explain how everything works for us and get us signed up and running. There are several games that you could play, but we went with the general one where all the targets were fair game. Each player gets 20 balls and you can have up to 6 players in a bay. You are charge by the hour not the people so that makes splitting the tab a bit easier which they have no problems doing. Madison and I ordered ice water on repeat and an order of cheese fries before we tested out the clubs.

I played around with different clubs before finding a favorite, the Hybrid. I’m not sure if you’re supposed to stick with just one but it ended up being a good size and weight for me. To play you just make sure that your name is highlighted and wave you club over the sensor for the ball to come out that has a built in GPS tracker under your name so that it keeps score of where it lands, no chasing required. Without anyone to show me how to swing I relied on what I’ve seen on TV, and I wasn’t horrible. Although there was a lot of laughter with both of our lack of experience. The morning was filled with laughter, amazing cheese fries and girl talk which is the perfect recipe for a Girl’s Day.

We looked around a bit after playing a couple games, there is a bar with a rooftop patio complete with a stage that I could see them having live music on. That’s also when we discovered the bays with the couches and knew next time we needed to request one of those. I definitely recommend trying it, however I plan on going back in the Fall when the temperature is perfect! Luckily for me there is a Detroit location as well.

Any golfing tips for this newbie? Have a great week y’all!
