A day in the OBX is filled with relaxation, sunshine and plenty of quality time with my family. Speaking of family, my Mamaw’s favorite saying “A Girl’s Gotta Eat” is perfectly fitting for the WHOLE family. There is nothing that separates us from needing to keep to our food schedules. The ending to our day in the Outer Banks started perfectly at Hurricane Mo’s with a Pina Colada in hand.
This joint was hopping when we pulled up and the wait time was definitely worth it. Especially since I snuck up to the bar and ordered a Pina Colada to sip on while I waited. It wasn’t too strong which is just like I like it on an empty stomach and a need for something tropical. The hand painted walls and ceilings are just a fun aspect of the restaurant and help give a fun atmosphere to the beachside shack.
You put a plate of crab dip in front of my family and it’s demolished within 2 minutes. As soon as we ordered another round of dip for the table I politely asked my family if I could take pictures of it before we dig in. They happily obliged, and I knew if it had been the first dip there wouldn’t have been a chance at a blog post. The dip was perfection and the toast points were out of site! It should definitely be #1 on your list to order!
I had been loving on the seafood that week, so I ordered the grilled shrimp and splurged a bit with some fries. I don’t eat fries often, and these were nothing fancy. I’m weird I know, but I love to dip fries in Mayo so that’s also on my plate. But the shrimp was cooked perfectly and I couldn’t believe that I managed to eat all of it.
My Mom ordered the fish tacos which included shrimp, grilled mahi mahi that came with a kick to it; coconut rice and a wonderful bowl of black beans. I’m happy to say that I ate the left overs of this meal the next day and it was fabulous! I would totally recommend it! It was perfect making it into tacos as well as eating without the tortillas as I did.
Hurricane Mo’s was a perfect stop for dinner in the Outer Banks before we made our way back to Norfolk where we were staying that week. It had the beachy vibe that I so long for when I am up North too long.
Have a fantastic weekend everyone! I’m off to see Wicked tomorrow! What are your weekend plans?
