DIY Patriotic Clutch

A day later than normal, I am seriously considering moving my weekend blogs to Saturdays so it might be a regular thing. I do have a fun one to share with you today though, especially with Memorial Day coming up! I realized this Winter that I had absolutely no patriotic bags and from some inspiration from the islands on my most recent trip I started thinking about a fun way to make one myself! This weekend I am sharing my DIY Patriotic Clutch! Perfect for all of the Summer parties and barbecues!

What’s wonderful about this idea is that it’s completely customizable so you can make whatever kind of clutch you want. My recommendation is to have a game plan before you actually buy. Looking online is great and might even help inspire you which I would suggest looking at Amazon and Etsy for iron on patches to help get you started.

Step 1: Gather The Supplies // With my game plan in mind I ordered this straw clutch off of Amazon and started searching for patches I knew I would love. The clutch is a perfect blank canvas and perfect for all of my Summer parties! It’s a great quality and has a light linen lining. I found the LOVE patch on Etsy and the Cupcakes and Stars I snagged from Amazon. JoAnn’s and Michaels are great options if you wanted to look for them in person. With my schedule I ordered all of mine online.

Step 2: Play with the Layout // I will happily admit that it took me a couple days to be happy with where I wanted things. I kept going back and moving little things. Once you are content with your decision TAKE A PICTURE! I kid you not, it will help! I know I’m going to be carrying this around a lot so I wanted to love it, which is why I took my time.

Step 3: Iron in Place // Grab your iron it’s time to make it official! Now, I had it up to a higher temp (cotton) as I really wanted the patches to stick. It does singe the straw a bit but I actually like the slight color disfiguration. I only counted to 10 each time I had it down though, so be careful not to burn the clutch. Also, don’t be afraid to open the clutch, it might be easier to iron that way depending on where the patch is. I attempted to use a cloth on top but the patches weren’t sticking, so I just monitored the process.

That’s it! Totally simple, easy and ready to party with this Summer. Another idea is for beach patches with palm trees, flamingos, sun and maybe even a turtle. The beauty of it is that you can put anything you want on the clutch! Don’t forget the back! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hope my quick little DIY helps inspire you! It took me less than 10 minutes and I know will be a hit this Summer! Memorial Day is just around the corner if you want to go the Patriotic theme. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Have a blessed weekend y’all!
