Warning: Rant ahead filled with a touch of preaching, inspiring and an overall disapproval of a common phrase. 

Earlier this month I received a phone call. I’ve been very clear that I have had a rollercoaster of a Summer and this hit me during a week I was so close in my faith with God and was following HIS lead blindly in more ways than one. I was feeling amazing, confident, helpful and without a doubt my heart was in the right place. I regret nothing. I would actually do it all over again. Nonetheless, I received a call that started with being told “You Need to Stay in Your Lane!”

I recognized the voice immediately, and let me tell you this firecracker was quick to defend my intentions, actions and overall I was talking to a wall of such. I could have called this voice out on their insecurities and other information that would have been a perfect counter attack, but that’s just not my style. I handled it firmly, confidently and with grace mixed with a bit of sass. After I ended the attacking phone call my already exhausted mind had two paths, I could cry and let it all get to me or I could give it to God and rejoice in the rest of my already blessed week. I laughed. It turned into a beautiful joke filled with lots of laughter. This Princess sleighed a dragon that day and came out laughing. I believe I even pointed out that I bought a Wrangler last month to NOT stay in my lane.

Hilariously this picture appeared in my feed that week. So true and such a confirmation that you should NEVER STAY IN YOUR LANE!

After I finished laughing, joking and embracing the blessed parts of my week it occurred to me just how common this horrible saying has become. I was searching online about NOT staying in your lane and came up empty. Everything was claiming the horrible saying. Even more, it occurred to me how opposite it is of God’s plan for us. You see, HE wants to push us out of our comfort zone. God wants us to go out of our way, out of our normal, help strangers and be no where near your little lane. We aren’t meant to be on a one way path, we are meant to help touch other’s lives.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

You never know when God is going to call you to do something. But you better believe I try my best to listen. I remember a couple years ago yelling to someone who didn’t particularly like me that I was praying for them in a crowded hallway, not knowing what they were going through. Talk about embarrassing, but apparently that’s what she needed and my simple shout touched her soul that day. I’ve learned a valuable lesson this month, do what I am being called to do no matter what it is because I do not know that amount of lives that I am touching. Even if it’s a simple smile and act of kindness to someone having a horrible day.

“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” John 15:12

Personally, when I am praying on a decision God tends to give me my decision making verse. It’s been my answer to my prayers most of my life and boy have I found it in some weird places… written on a dollar bill, bathroom stall, opening instagram, written on the wall… you name it! I am one to need assurance that I am doing the right thing even when it is so far out of my comfort zone or lane if you will and sure enough God provides it to me.

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11

The moral of this is that do not let ANYONE EVER tell you that you need to stay in your lane. You were called by God to help others, not sit back on cruise control. DO NOT STAY IN YOUR LANE!
