Life Update: From Vegetarian to Baby Carnivore

I’ve been told I can’t have bacon everyday…. I can’t tell if I look guilty or sad. 😉

I have a bit of a confession to make, or another change that has happened recently. I am no longer a vegetarian. Yes, you read that right. So, here is a bit of an update on how I got to that point and back again which all started with bacon 18 years later.

Bacon egg and cheese biscuit at the airport on my way to vacation.

When I was 12 I gave up eating beef and pork. I am a big believer in listening to your body as it will tell you what you need and don’t need. At the time it was for my health, which I won’t go into the details of but it was a drastic change at the time. Basically I had lived off of chicken, turkey and fish ever since.

Pastrami breakfast board – officially started a pastrami obsession!

I never actually wanted to become a vegetarian, it was also never pushed on me. A few years ago my body started saying no to poultry and then fish. It was almost like it was refusing the protein from the inside out. I didn’t know how to even be a vegetarian and this forced me to learn how to cook again, how to order, travel… basically it was a pretty big lifestyle change.

Bacon & Grits. My go-to lido deck breakfast.

Then, a year and a half ago I started eating fish again. But only in moderation, I could never have it two days in a row or I would become severely nauseous. All of a sudden in early January 2020 I was craving bacon. Going with my listening to my body routine, I got myself some bacon. I really liked it. Luckily, I was headed on a cruise for half of the month of January and I knew that would be a great time to start trying different meats to see what I liked, what I could eat, etc.

BBQ pulled pork.

Chicken fried steak.

Although I still can’t go near chicken or turkey, this girl has had a blast trying many different things that I used to love when I was younger. (Fun Fact: Ham was the hardest for me to give up back then.) Within two days of my vacation I had eaten bacon, ham, prime rib, pastrami and bbq pork. What’s even crazier is that I liked them all! I’m sorry to say my dear vegetarian readers that I will be switching that up a bit, as I am now considered a carnivore. I’ve actually been calling myself a baby carnivore. Of course now I am teaching myself how to cook meat let alone shop for it. It’s been a fun and entertaining journey so far!

First post-cruise meal… a 1/2 pound bacon cheeseburger.

Have a blessed week y’all, and don’t be afraid to listen to what your body is telling you that you need or don’t need. It might be drastic but it’s always worth it.
