Michigan Football Brunch

To kick off the start of football season, I threw a brunch fit for any University of Michigan fan. Y’all know I love a good theme, so of course I went all out! Including customizing my own napkins. I tried my best to customize the menu to fit ‘Maize & Blue’ as much as possible while keeping the tradition of brunch and a splash of good old fashioned football.

Let’s dive into the brunch menu I created for the morning:

  • Blueberry Yogurt Parfaits with Shaved Lemon Peel
  • Mini Sour Cream Pecan Coffee Cakes
  • Blueberry Pancakes with Lemon Syrup
  • Scrambled Eggs
  • Bacon
  • Cinnamon Twists
  • Football Cupcakes
  • Coffee
  • Orange Juice

Blueberry Yogurt Parfaits // We started things off with adorable these little parfaits that adorned the place settings! The bottom was layered with granola, followed by vanilla yogurt and topped with fresh blueberries. It was completed with a sprinkle of shaved lemon peel for a Maize look and citrus flavor.

Mini Sour Cream Pecan Coffee Cakes // I’m starting to wonder if this is the recipe that I should be holding a secret… This was the first time I made my coffee cake in mini form, and it was just as much of a hit as it is when I make the full cake! I can’t tell you how many people tend to go crazy over it!! It all started last winter when I got fed up trying to find Sara Lee’s Pecan Coffee Cake, so I perfected one of my own. Well, it was a hit last winter and these little cakes of perfection were a hit again today! I bake them in torte pans to give them ‘pretty’ edges and a bit of a dip on the top for me to add the toppings.

Blueberry Pancakes with Lemon Syrup // Nothing like taking a classic and putting a ‘Maize’ spin to it! I took to Pinterest to find a lemon syrup recipe that seemed relatively simple. I don’t usually make syrups, but the one I picked definitely did the trick! This lemony goodness was a perfect addition to the classic sweet cream blueberry pancakes.

Scrambled Eggs & Bacon // There was just so much sweets on this table y’all, I need to ‘cut the sweet’ as we would say in my family!! Not only were the eggs yellow, πŸ˜‰ but both helped add much needed protein that morning. There’s nothing wrong with bacon!

The decor was kinda easy for this football fan. I designed the quilt that is hanging last winter as a Christmas present for my Dad. Well, I liked it so much that I made myself one as well!! The table runner was another one that I whipped together, it is the Michigan field. I had navy napkins lying around and at the last minute I added the block M’s for a final touch! I just knew that I would use them for years to come! Oh yeah, and of course I had the football lying around too.

Cinnamon Twists & Football Cupcakes // It’s safe to say I’m known for my cupcakes! I went for the turf/grass green for the football to sit in for the buttercream to give the table another color and help bring in the table runner. I know, you probably were expecting Maize or Blue frosting… I gotta keep y’all guessing sometimes! They were a classic vanilla cupcake and I had the football toppers from years of tailgating my friends. The cinnamon twists I hadn’t made in YEARS!! For some reason I was craving them that week, and they went perfectly! Not that we really needed another sweet, but hey that’s where the dessert tower came from!

There you have it! A brunch fit to kick off football season in Maize & Blue style! No matter your team, you can easily tailor your menu and decor around it. Just get a little creative and sprinkle some football magic on it. Have a blessed week and Go BLUE!
