I was blessed to be able to take a last minute trip to Port Huron last month. It was a quick overnight work trip, but a fun, jam packed one at that!
We arrived just in time for lunch, so my first stop was Raven Cafe. This place was hopping, definitely the right call! We had grilled cheese & soup which was absolutely scrumptious!! I opted for bacon on my grilled cheese and had the mushroom & brie soup. My Mom had the tomato basil soup and kept her grilled cheese classic. Travis, our server was absolutely delightful and attentive to us. The lavender French soda that I ordered definitely hit the spot for the long day I had already had and still had to come. But boy, did we hear about this place during out entire trip! This is definitely the #1 recommended place in Port Huron! So glad we made it our first stop. As a literary fan, I had so much fun playing ‘where’s Waldo’ of sorts around the restaurant.
The purpose of my visit was the grand opening of the Challenger Learning Center at St. Clair County Community College, which is Michigan’s first center! The Challenger Learning Center is a fully immersive, custom-designed space themed simulator. I definitely recommend checking out your nearest center (for 5th grade and up) if you’re looking for an educational opportunity.
After coming back down to earth (#SpaceGirl) we headed over to Freighters for dinner. Definitely ask for a view of the water! Although, apparently we should have made reservations… who knew?!? They had a retirement party and a wedding happening as well as the restaurant open. Needless to say, they were busy! Freighters is attached to the Blue Water Convention Center and Double Tree Hotel, but the restaurant overlooks the St. Clair River with amazing views! It’s fun to watch the ships, trucks driving across the bridge and just wave to our Canadian friends from across the river.
We started with the artichoke dip as we arrived right before happy hour was ending. The dip was really good and I would totally order it again. We had that gone in record timing. I ordered the Mesa Chopped Salad and let me tell y’all, it definitely had a kick to it! I’m not usually a spicy fan, and this had my mouth on fire a bit… I ate it, but really wish I had been warned a bit. The chicken was really good though!
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore had just come out and apparently we were up for anything! I’m so glad we did though, because I fell in love with Sperry’s movie theatre the moment I walked in. How far is too far to travel for a movie?! Asking for a friend… I seriously started looking up how to franchise after leaving here. There are only 4 rows in the theatre and there are no bad seats at all! Some of the chairs have massages, heaters and they all lounge. You can order food ahead of time and have it delivered to your seat. Or there is the dinner & a movie option, I made a trip to the dinning room floor to check it out as well as the menu. Plus they have the classic concessions of course. I will definitely be back next time I’m in town!
Y’all know I need my coffee! The next morning I headed over to the M25 Coffee truck. Which just happened to be under the bridge by the water. This little coffee truck is certainly the place to be in the morning in Port Huron! I was certainly not disappointed! We even scored a couple of bags of beans to bring home!!
That weekend was definitely a whirlwind for sure! I know I’m planning on being back in Port Huron next summer. So, if anyone has any new tips feel free to send them my way. 🙂 Have a blessed week y’all!
